The Senior PGA Championship 2012 Live

at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores

The Senior PGA Championship is one of the five major championships in men's senior golf. It is administered by the Professional Golfers' Association of America and is recognized as a major championship by both the Champions Tour and the European Seniors Tour. It was formerly an unofficial money event on the European Seniors Tour, but since 2007 has been an official money event.[1] Winners gain entry into the same season's PGA Championship. The winners prior to 1980 are not considered major champions of this event by the Champions Tour. It was founded in 1937, and the inaugural event was played at Augusta National Golf Club. The lower age limit is 50, which is the standard limit for men's senior professional golf tournaments. In the past the event has had long spells of playing on a single host course, but currently it is played on a different course each year. Two tournaments were played in 1979 and 1984, and no tournaments were held in 1939, 1943, 1944, 1983, and 1985. The tournament has gone by several different names:
The Champion's Tour holds the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid from May 24th to the 27th at the Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan. This event features a two million dollar purse and Tom Watson is the defending champion, walking away with $360,000 last year. The next tournament on the calendar is the Principal Charity Classic, which is from June 1st to the 3rd, at the Glen Oaks, Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa and then from June 7th to the 10th, the Regions Tadition will be held in Shoal Creek, Alabama. Last year, the winner of this event event when it was held at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky was Tom Watson. Then, in 2010, Tom Lehman walked away with the title when it was played at the Colorado Golf Club. This year, the field consists of Michael Allen and Tommy Armour III as well as Ben Bates, Jim Cartern Roger Chapman, Tom Atchison and Jay Don Blake. Other that will be playing include Russ Cochran, Barry Evans and Brad Faxon as well as Michael Goodes, Jay Haas, Bob Gilder and Jeff and Robin Freeman.
